So ive been gone for about a year... besides the usual school and golfing, ive been working on getting my drivers license lately. A couple months ago, my honda fit (which i picked up in august...ish) was on loan to my 86 yr old grandma, she got it totaled due to a bent frame (no one got hurt). I immediately went car searching once again, my aim being some affordable used hatchback with lots of cargo space. I ended up looking at a 70's vw bus first then 80's vw busses, but then I said... hell im going to drive this on the freeway... and it has no airbags!? lol... so I kept on looking and ended up looking at some subarus. i saw this sporty 99 subaru impreza wagon and thought it was awesome, so i went hunting for one. There were absolutely none in all of calif, to my surprise. I finally found one... in colorado and went to pick it up, a 99 subaru impreza outback sport (long name for a car right?). It was a 5 speed manual with 60,000 miles(prtty good for a 99). Took a greyhound bus (22 hr ride) to go pick up the car and drive it back. My dad and I left on the greyhound on April 21st(saturday) and ended up in colorado on April 22nd(sunday). We picked up the car at 8am and then drove it all the way back non stop. Got back home at 9pm surprisingly. Now came the learning part, trying to drive a stick shift. The first time I went out to practice(in a resort area), I stalled trying to take off in 1st gear from a stop 5 times. Great stuff right? getting that violent whiplash 5 times Well over the weeks ive been practicing and practicing, now im taking off in 1st gear easily, but need work on hill starts... We put new 8 way adjustable shocks, new brake pads, new brake rotors, a front strut bar, new brake fluid, new air filters, and new fuel injectors. At this point im going... oh sht thats good. lol. Now im still working on driving that 5speed manual, and gotta take drivers ed over summer, and hope to get my drivers permit in august.
good stuff ehh? ive also been on my hs golf team, makes the school year fly by easily 8)
and that was pretty much all ive done this year... this year is going by too fast for me %-6
edit: now with a picture
that was a pic of it when it was in colorado, i gotta get a new pic sometime :p
ahh, hill starts. that was my biggest fear when starting out. lol. i actually became used to it quicker than i thought. but trust me, when you're first starting out, hillstarts will really freak you out if there's a really nice car close behind you. you'll get used to it though

I thought these cars had hill-start assistance, push the brakes and it will stay until you hit the accelerator or release clutch, don't remember exactly. Maybe it's an option..
Googled a bit: The hill-start assist function maintains the braking function one second after the brake pedal is released in case of starting a car on a hilly road. (Available on the S-GT MT model with Vehicle Dynamics Control, VDC)

lol its funny when people find a manual (stick shift :p ) confusing, at least here everyone learns with a manual, an automatic is just lazy. Hill starts are daunting at first but really easy after a short while.
Btw nice scooby!! not sure why your so concerned about boot space though.

I just ROFL'ed, over here stick shifts are the standard. People are like "Why the hell do you drive an automatic? Must be boring." Yeah right! Especially boring on long trips and in rush hour
