Im sorry. But ur hardware is simply too old, to upgrade on. Save ur money or buy a whole new computer now, which will be big enough for Vista.
The problem is that ur AGP slot is only a 4x, and ur ram highest speed is pc2100 with a maximum of 1 GB in total. So if u buy more rams, theyll be too slow for ur new hardware.
My advice.... Start building a whole new pc now, and upgrade the graphicscard, when needed. Then ull still have ur Media Center for movies etc. Only thing wrong with ur plan, is that is gonna be WAY too expensive. Cuz the hardware u wanna buy for ur Media Center, is too old/slow for the new one, ur gonna buy/build. And u wont get much out of a GeForce 7800 GS, since ur AGP is only 4x. ( And most likely, ull get into trouble with ur onboard graphicscard. When installing a new one. ) Save ur money... BF2 isnt worth that much

Yup. your hardware is too old. Save your money and get a totaly new rig. If you tell me how much you can spend on a new computer and where you would like to order it from, I can try and help you to set up a new rig for you.
Long story short, EVERYTHING EXCEPT THE POWERSUPLY WILL WORK
upgrade, dont buy from ebay
2gb ram, ok new processor ok, new GFX card, ok , get a card with 512mb vram, perhaps ATI Radeon x1600pro AGP8x, backwards compatible, (works with AGP4x)
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY, WAIT UNTIL YOUR VISTA PC COMES, YOU CAN LIVE WITHOUT BF2 FOR ANOTHER YEAR, oh btw, when u buy the new pc the gfx card probably will be DX10 compatible
