First of all download 3ds max and the MDT. Once you have thoes up and running go into the mdt and select Install 3ds max tools and after its done click run 3ds max tools. Now 3ds max will open up. If you have a 3ds file go into file/import. Find your 3ds file and click import. Now it should show up in the viewport.
If its an object that needs to be solid Make sure you add a collision Mesh to it. To do this just clone your object and change the clone name to COL01(you can also lower the poly count on the clone). Ok now in 3ds max look to the top left and you will see a battlefield tools tab. Click that then click /import export object. From there just use common sence to export your object.
NOTE: If its a new object you got from the net somewhere you may need to uvw map it if you want it to have textures. It will not just have the textures it did in the picture. [ Edited 29 Sep : 23:40 ]
